DevLog #3 - Update on the development of the V.0.2

After two long months of planning and discussing how best to accomplish the final game we wanted, me and Mariana have finally settled on something we both agreed on. We have been a bit unmotivated so far with this game project, partially because it wasn't coming along like we had expected and hoped partially because we keep second-guessing each decision we have ever made for the game (and a bit because we also doubt our capabilities).

This DevLog is more than overdue, but I finally feel like we have something substantial to say about this project. And since it's been two months since my last DevLog update, I'll be making a recap.

The original idea started from a GM(48) Game Jam where our theme was "Small World". For two days me and Mariana worked on our very first Game Jam Game and came up with the (unfinished) "Let there Bee Rumours" where the main protagonist is Lady Beetle, a small ant going around the colony hearing its inhabitants gossips and rumours, finding out about the missing Bee princess and her romantic affair with an ant. The game was a platformer where the player had to use the different platform types to advance on the map, avoiding the Queen Bee's Guards, that were searching for the princess, and the deadly spikes.

Work has been pretty slow lately, mainly due to our lack of motivation, but we have finally agreed on a story for our game (no longer the same one we used initially, but instead a new one) and we also agreed on a new work method to help us overcome this low tide we've been riding lately.

We decided to use the same method we would use for a game jam. Instead of work on this project with a mindset of "I need to have this done by the end of two weeks" we would instead do "I need to have this ready by the end of the next our" and once we had all the mechanics and art roughly done, we could then improve and remake/fix anything that had been developed on the 2/3 days we gave ourselves to do them. This lead to some buggy code obviously, but at least the mechanics were done in time, and I could then worry about rewriting anything once I knew I already had everything I would need.

So today I'm doing the "programing game jam" where I'll finish all the items from a carefully created list of mechanics that need to be implemented to the project for it to be considered (first functional and then completed).
